A child’s surrounding is instrumental to its developmental process. They acquire knowledge about the world through interaction with various environments. In turn, the environment imposes its own rules, and in doing so children learn how to effectively navigate them. And as children grow, they find themselves in ever greater numbers of situations that have different effects their physical and mental capacities. Therefore, it is important to provide children with a variety circumstances, where they can develop different skills and aspects of their character, which will be useful in later life.

The Great Impact of Parents

Parents are the most influential people in any child’s environment. Due to the strong emotional ties, they provide stable and reliable surroundings that help shape the child’s development. Because of their daily contact with kids, parents are also the premier source of love, meaning that kids have an instant sense of belonging. Moreover, children are very meticulous observers of their environment, so they learn a great deal from example. This model learning means that kids firstly mimic, and later adopt their parents’ qualities, character traits, but also flaws. That is why it is important that parents always adapt their behaviour around children. Precisely because of that immense impact, parents, through their guidance and choices, are the ones who ultimately shape a child’s environment altogether.

Toys Influence Development

Because children learn about the world around them mostly through observation, and play, toys are essential during childhood development. Through toys children acquire knowledge about the world, and develop skills. Different toys and games target different areas of development, through different stages of childhood. So, while early toys like teething toys, rattles, and stuffed animals target sensory and basic motor development, puzzles and building blocks spark imagination, and engage problem-solving and other higher cognitive functions, word games target language, books abstract thinking, and dolls help in socio-emotional development.

Kindergarten and School

Kindergarten and school are also an influential environment children face during their development. Because it breaks the usual routine, some children face anxiety and trouble letting go at first. However, when they overcome it, these institutions provide a source not just for education, but also for acquiring independence, self-reliance, and socialization. And because teachers replace parents during the day, their input into child growth is also noticeable. Through their authority, kids learn about respect, fairness, and other social values. While interacting with other students, children develop friendship, and have a chance to engage with people their own level, and similar thought patterns.

Home Environment

When talking about influential environments, home plays a major part in any child’s life. It provides a place where children feel relaxed and comfortable in their own skin. This is the place where they have most self-confidence, and have no sense of vulnerability. It is their safe haven, their own space, where they can escape from everything negative they encounter, and learn about the world through play. Moreover, children view their home as their very own playground. They pretend they are cooking with pots and pans from the kitchen, then they hide out in makeshift tents and blanket forts. They create cities and castles from boxes, they familiarize themselves with the alphabet as they play on colorful Zado carpets. They then rearrange alphabetic magnets on the fridge, using the knowledge they've picked up. Children do a whole variety of pretend activities which engage their curiosity and sparks their imagination.

Influence of Sports

Sports provide numerous benefits for children to learn and build character. Besides being a healthy way of physical development, sports teach children discipline and perseverance. Children also learn the value of hard work, and that it is an admired social trait, which is rewarded in the end. Through team sports children also have a chance to interact with others, how to function in a team, and through individual output contribute to a higher goal. On the other hand, individual sports target specific character traits, such as self-confidence, self-reliance, and resourcefulness, refining, and utilizing them in practice.
In the end, it is important to remember, that any environment that a child faces has immense influence on its development. And by engaging in knowledgeable, safe and healthy environments, a child will be surrounded by effective means to grow into a strong individual and navigate life with ease.
